How does speaker bureau representation work?

Why a speaker bureau?
A speaker bureau helps event planners and speakers connect for greater service, more profit, and better missional impact. PumpJack Speakers Bureau helps event planners find excellent speakers and relieves speakers from the administrative hassle of negotiating honoraria and contractual details, freeing speakers to focus on their messages.
Who is PumpJack interested in representing?
Most speaker bureaus and agencies are interested only in representing established speakers who command high honoraria. PumpJack is interested in representing and supporting both experienced and new talent. So, if you believe you have an important message to share but lack the needed professional support, PumpJack might be for you.
How do you handle honoraria?
PumpJack splits honoraria with its speakers according to a sliding scale, depending on the speakers experience and perceivable market demand.
Why the difference in tiers?
PumpJack works hard to market all its speakers, and newer speakers usually require more ramp-up time, and the bureau needs to recoup its extra time and energy investment. PumpJack does allow speakers to speak pro-bono, but not excessively; PumpJack is a service that needs to earn income and pay bills and pro-bono engagements are expected to the exception, not the rule for speakers.
PumpJack reserves the right to change these ratios and other aspects in light of changing market dynamics.
Does being represented by PumpJack Speaker Bureau mean that I benefit from its Editorial House or Public Relations department?
No, these three departments operate independent of each other. So, procuring these services require individual contracts built on a solid mutual understanding of objectives and strategies.

How does a SME get listed on the PumpJack Speaker Bureau?
- SME Audit. Fill out the PumpJack SME Audit. This is a free service and is available by filling out the PumpJack Contact Form. ("Yikes, that sounds painful." Nah, not at all. In fact, some even say the experience is cathartic. It is just a questionnaire that helps us get to know you, and it helps you think of your goals and objectives, perhaps in new ways.)
- Interview. PumpJack will schedule an interview with you by phone, Skype or Google Hangouts.
- Contract. If it seems like a fit, PumpJack will generate a Speaker Representation Agreement. You will sign and date the last page and return to PumpJack.
- Activation fee. You will pay the Activation Fee of $250. This fee is non-refundable and pays for PumpJack's labor to create your speaker web page. For an extra fee, PumpJack will distribute one national press release over PR Newswire. (More niche outlets are available for an extra fee; ask for details.)
- Photography. Required: You will procure any needed professional photography. Amateur photography is not acceptable. PumpJack does not provide this service.
- Video, audio. Optional, but highly recommended: You procure and/or provide professional audio or video for PumpJack to feature on your dedicated PumpJack speaker page.
- Build your speaker web page. PumpJack will then begin to collaboratively build your speaker web page. While this is a collaborative endeavor with much editorial deference allotted to the speaker, and PumpJack has every reason and incentive to properly reflect the speaker's unique value to prospective event planners and buyers, PumpJack ultimately retains 100% editorial control over the appearance and final content of the speaker's page.
- Press release. PumpJack will then issue a press release announcing your addition to the PumpJack Speakers Bureau.
- General marketing. PumpJack regularly engages clients and, in doing so, includes you as part of the queue of speakers that it offers to prospective clients. PumpJack does not, however, provide specific marketing, like calling on a specific list of people or engaging a specific opportunity. Those initiatives are possible, but require a separate PumpJack Public Relations contract.
