The popular question today seems to be “why”? What is your why? Why do you show up every day? I recently asked our Firm, why MRZ and not some other firm? Why are you here? You should know your why! This post is going to very self serving, be forewarned, but it is a challenge to you, do you know your why? Does your company have a why? Here is the #MRZWhy.
There are three distinctive components to the #MRZWhy. The first and most important, is that we set out to create opportunity for financial success for the families of MRZ and our own. A firm that would be more than a job, one that would enable a life style and provide a clear path to upward mobility and success for our team. While that path may not be to partner, it is a path to a clear and fulfilling career that would mean more to you than a job, more than just a paycheck, a journey for our team and their family. It is foremost in our minds that every member of the MRZ team recognize the value they have to the team, the role they play and that we provide them the resources, motivation and encouragement to reach their goals and dreams. MRZ MUST be that organization. The first #MRZWhy is OPPORTUNITY. It is why we do this.
The second component is an organization that allows your family to experience the ride with you. I, for one, understand the need to have your family involved because I failed at that. In the earlier years of my career I was not encouraged or taught the value of including my family in the career journey I was embarking upon. I really didn't have that mentor or leader in my professional life. Even today, as I try to make up for that lost time, there are just simply experiences that I will not have. I have repeatedly told my partners, go take care of your family. It is most important. When we meet as a partner group, there is a theme that resonates in all that we do. How do we include the families? How do we make you, the team member, understand how important it is to include your family? How do we get that message across to you? Not just in the success stories, but in the struggles, the vision for where we are going. The second #MRZWhy is our FAMILY.
The third component of the #MRZWhy is the client. Ideas. Answers. Results. It is the why. We created an organization to not only provide compliance at a high level, but one that creates a strong loyalty between the firm and the client. One that serves the client at such a high level, there is no higher level of service available. More than the delivery of a tax return, more than an audit report that expresses our opinion, more than a monthly financial statement. We must be MORE. Our changing economy demands more than auditors, accountants and tax preparers. It demands a team of advisors, consultants and industry experts. We are that organization. MRZ, you are that team. If there were a super bowl of CPA firms, the MRZ Team would be the champions. The third component of the #MRZWhy is “CLIENT SERVICE.”
There is no question in my mind that our culture embodies these three components today. We have grown 48% organically this year, why? Opportunity for our team and their family. We had an incredible holiday party, we invited the spouse to the #MRZRollout2016 (they need to share in the vision) and we have more family focused events to come. Why? Because FAMILY is important. This last year saw the implementation of our Client Relationship Manager team and it has revolutionized our firm. We have seen our content marketing and website traffic reach unheard heights. We are competing with firms 10 times our size and resources. Why? Our focus on the Client and Client service.
Know your why. Even better, does your firm know their why?
